International Conference on Development of National Referral Mechanisms for Protection and assistance of Victims of Trafficking took place in Minsk
On 12-13 Dec 2012 IOM Belarus hosted, in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Belarus, an International Conference on Development of National Referral Mechanisms (NRM) for Protection and assistance of Victims of Trafficking.
The conference was organized within the framework of the Programme Against Human Trafficking in Eastern and South-Eastern Europe with the financial support of the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The conference offered a platform for sharing experiences and best practices in the sphere of combating trafficking in human beings through consolidation of cooperation between governmental and non-governmental organizations as part of the process of NRM development in the region for protection of human rights of trafficking victims and provision of direct assistance to them.
The conference brought together more than 80 officials and experts from governmental, non-governmental and international organizations from Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine and Albania. The representatives of international and Diplomatic Missions in Belarus were also present at the Conference.
The participants discussed and analyzed the experiences of participating countries, shared the NRM monitoring practice, identified common challenges and developed relevant recommendations for further enhancement of NRMs in countries of the region.
