Belarusian and Ukrainian border guards participated in the study visit to Hungary on common contact points on 4-8 April 2016. The visit was organized by IOM Minsk mission within the framework of the EU-funded international technical assistance project SURCAP-II.
The Belarusian-Ukrainian delegation visited the headquarters of the National Police of Hungary, National Coordination Center EUROSUR, border checkpoints Biharkeresztes,Nyírábrány, Létavértes, the Hungarian-Romanian common contact point (CCP) Ártánd and the international airport in Debrecen.
During the visit, the delegates had an opportunity to learn Hungarian colleagues’ best practices in the area of organization of common border control at border checkpoints along the Hungarian-Romanian border, as well as in the area of the joint green border patrol. Establishment of CCP and development of the international cooperation were of a great interest of the participants.
The delegates marked the balanced approach of Hungarian colleagues to the border security with the full support of the Hungarian government, the optimized and effective functioning of the contact point, and positive perception of joint border patrol by local people.
Lessons learned on joint border patrol, common control at border checkpoints and the development of international cooperation will be applied to the operational activities of border guard agencies of Belarus and Ukraine. Moreover, the best practices on common contact point Ártánd will be used when organizing and establishing of the pilot common contact point at the Belarusian-Ukrainian border.
