Security of Belarus-Ukraine Border in Spotlight of Attention in Minsk
The meeting of the Steering Committee of the EU funded SURCAP-2 project was held on December 4, 2014 in the Office of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Minsk. The meeting was attended by senior officials representing the State Border Committee of Belarus, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, the Delegation of the European Union to Belarus as well as IOM Minsk Mission.
The project partners exchanged up-to-date information on the current situation along the common Belarus-Ukraine border, discussed methods to strengthen it, including the procurement of specialized surveillance equipment, training of border guard personnel in Integrated Border Management techniques and organization of a number of expert missions to the border which will result in the development of a number of policy documents and recommendations.
Background:
The regional project titled, “Strengthening Surveillance and Bilateral Coordination Capacity along the Common Border between Belarus and Ukraine (SURCAP Phase II),” is to be carried out over 30 months (2014–2016). It is funded by the European Union and implemented by IOM with the support of ICMPD.
