IOM Participates in Press-Conference on Issues of Irregular Migration

Chief of IOM Mission participated in the press-conference dedicated to the International Migrants Day. The participants, among which were representatives of the EU Delegation to Belarus, UNDP, UNHCR, State Border Committee, discussed the importance of the joint project “Supporting the Republic of Belarus in Addressing Irregular Migration and Promoting Human Rights of Vulnerable Migrants” and the achieved results.

Besides, Zeynal Hajiyev, Chief of IOM Mission, paid attention to both general migration issues and issues of irregular migration, providing the IOM data that shows the number of migrants dying on dangerous journeys – 5000 persons, which is twice as big as the number of last year. “This is one of the most important problems that requires consolidated solutions based on the international experience, cooperative work of law enforcement and non-governmental organizations”, highlighted Zeynal Hajiyev.

All the participants pointed out the significance of the joint project aimed at the solution of irregular migration issues and protection of the rights of vulnerable migrants and expressed their hope, that such conferences reporting on the results of project activities in the above mentioned sphere will be organized in future.
