Minsk Hosts Train-the-Trainers Course for Border Guard officers on Combating Trafficking in Persons
The training that took place in Minsk on June 16-18 was organized by IOM Belarus and Georgia in partnership with FRONTEX within the project “Eastern Partnership – Integrated Border Management Capacity Building Project” with the financial support of European Union. The experts of the training represented the leading organizations in the field of migration – FRONTEX and IOM. The event brought together the representatives of 6 countries who had the opportunity to learn the best European practices in the field of combating trafficking in human beings (THB), identification of the victims of THB, investigation of the crimes and importance of cooperation between the involved CT agencies at national, regional and international levels.
The purpose of the training was to create awareness, increase understanding and enhance knowledge among border guards of crime of THB, its characteristics, key stakeholders, development and functioning of referral mechanisms for assistance and protection; to train the trainers on how to facilitate the learning process within the national framework in 6 participating countries: Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.
The objectives of the seminar were met and the participants (based on presentations, case-studies, brainstorming and training tools) acquired practical tools on knowledge transfer in the field of combating THB.
